In addition to being a historical city, port city and regional center, Famagusta also has the distinction of being a university city. The current location of the city of Famagusta is a continuation of its historical mission in accordance with current conditions. Famagusta, which hosts the largest port and the only free port of the TRNC, is a very important city not only in economic terms, but also in the fields of communication, science, technology, culture, education and entertainment.

Maraş, one of the most famous places in Cyprus, is located in the city of Famagusta. Maraş, which was once known as the Las Vegas of the Middle East with its beaches, accommodation and entertainment venues, was closed to settlement as a military zone after the Cyprus Operation in 1974. The coastlines north of KapalıMaraş, which turned into a ghost town, were opened for business use in October 2020. The 3.5 percent of Maraş, whose status is a military zone, started to be visited by thousands of people with its opening.
